Career Experience
I am a recent graduate with a passion for English and American history/government. Most of my professional experience can be split into either writing (particularly journalistic writing) or education. I wrote for an award-winning student publication for several years, working my way up from a staff writer to editor of the largest section, News and Politics. Through my major coursework and my English minor, I have honed my writing skills across various genres, employing the necessary conventions for each with expertise. All this is in addition to my secondary education background: I was enrolled in a program wherein I took graduate level courses in education, with an emphasis in teaching writing. I have tutored a student requiring a focus on literacy in reading, writing, and oral presentation skills as part of this program. I also mentored middle school students in a virtual after-school creative writing program. Additionally, I have taught in classroom simulations, extensively worked on curriculum development, assessment administration and evaluation, and completed thirty observation hours in classroom settings.
I Love Tutoring Because
I was very young when I developed a love for teaching. I used to teach the neighborhood kids to roller-skate and research topics to teach my brother and parents at home. In high school, I was the unofficially designated tutor for all my friends in AP US History and English. I was also entrusted with the privilege of providing feedback on and editing several college application essays during this time. I found that this was something that I not only truly loved but am truly good at. I enjoy working with people, especially on their writing (but, really, on anything) to bring out their potential, their vision, and their great ideas.
