Career Experience
Hi everyone, I’m an experienced adjunct lecturer in communication and media studies having taught more than 70 individual courses over 12 years in the classroom. I have designed and delivered college courses via in-person, online, and hybrid modalities, and I regularly work with students to improve their writing, reading, public speaking, and critical thinking skills. Before starting graduate school in 2007, I gained experience in sales and marketing. I spent several years in the advertising industry training as a brand strategist with agencies in Minneapolis and NYC. I am comfortable tutoring for improvement in writing and public speaking as well as a range of subject areas in the humanities and social sciences, including journalism & mass communication, English, sociology, marketing and related fields. I am always happy to work with students and parents to design an approach that best suits the needs of the student.
I Love Tutoring Because
classrooms can sometimes be chaotic environments where students and teachers have trouble focusing on the task of learning. Tutoring provides an important opportunity for a student and a teacher to focus entirely on one question or one assignment at a time, without the distractions or pressure of a fast-paced classroom. Being able to experience the 'ah-ha' moment along with a student who is struggling to understand a concept or finish an assignment is always the best part of teaching. I'm grateful for the opportunity provided by tutoring to work directly with students on practical problems they are facing in the moment. I think of tutoring is an invaluable opportunity to lend that kind of help and see those results.
