Career Experience
I did two years of an electrical engineering degree, before simply deciding it was not my passion. I then worked as an editor and proofreader in my college's writing center, helping hundreds of students in total to improve their writing. I was also doing supplemental instruction for a sociology course, which entailed lecture-style teaching and fielding questions every week. I then worked as a professional editor for both authors and a literary magazine, did grant writing, and was a college administrator for two years. I have finally landed in my dream job of college professor, and I currently teach English courses along with a research course for our prison education program, which is in-person at the prison. I am also the lead of planning a writing bachelor's degree to be offered at the prison next year.
I Love Tutoring Because
Being able to watch a person go from feeling helpless and feeling as if they can never improve or never grasp something to seeing that light bulb go off is one of my favorite moments. Watching their writing and abilities morph and change is incredible. Anything I teach, I feel passionate about the subject. So being able to share some of that passion and help others see these things in a new light is incredibly rewarding.
