Career Experience

With a Ph.D in immunology, I became a research scientist in a medical diagnostic company. This gave me the opportunity to build an expertise in designing and developing immune system-based diagnostics which could be used in the study of infectious diseases, cancer and auto-immune diseases. After 15 yrs in this industry, I felt called to change careers and became a high school science teacher, teaching all levels of chemistry and physics courses. I have recently retired after 18 yrs.

I Love Tutoring Because

...as a high school teacher, I had many opportunities to tutor students in a one-to-one setting and there is a great deal of satisfaction in being able to interact with a student in this way. The two-way communication is a much more effective way to break down learning barriers and fill in knowledge gaps. I also get to share more closely in the student's progress and the growing confidence in their abilities.

Ms. Patricia was awesome! I really understand scientific notation, how to use my calculator for it, and dimensional analysis much better. She helped me for over 45 minutes and was patient through it all. We worked on the problem that I had, and she explained where I messed up and how I could fix it. She also helped me when I plugged it into my calculator wrong, which is extremely helpful for the future!Thanks for teaching me, Ms. Patricia!
