Academics

Cal State San Bernardino’s motto is “Come here, go anywhere” and undergrads certainly feel that sentiment rings true. The university provides a “great education” that allows students to “discover amazing things about [themselves].” CSUSB offers a substantial number of majors and students’ heap praise on the “well recognized business program” as well as the “tremendous” criminal justice program and “great” nursing school. Professors at CSUSB receive high marks. “Passionate” and “knowledgeable,” teachers here strive to “make sure the material is understood.” Students are also grateful for “the enthusiasm they bring to every lecture.” A junior illustrates by sharing, “My professors bring a sense of humor to the classroom, which allows them to be a lot more approachable. They allow me to have fun while I am learning.” And it’s certainly evident that “professors want you to do well, and provide resources for students to make it happen.” As a math major explains, “When a questions arises, they are always willing to explain it thoroughly, so that all students understand.” And one ecstatic freshman concludes, “So far my academic experience is far beyond what I had anticipated. It is more than great; it’s amazing.”

Student Body

Across the board, undergrads at CSUSB insist that “there are no typical students” here. As one psych major explains, “We have great diversity which provides a great mixture of beliefs and ideas. There [are] young and old students, local and international students, and this allows people to share their different points of view and everyone can bring something to the table.” Generally, students find their peers to be “very laid-back” and “open minded.” “Friendly” is another adjective that often springs to mind. As one math major notes, “When a student is struggling, it is not uncommon to find someone willing to help you.” And a nutrition major agrees adding, “I was lost as I was looking for my class and a pair of students noticed and helped me…I did not even [have to] ask.” Perhaps this content freshman says it best, “As I see it everyone fits in with everyone. No matter if your religious or non-religious, skater or punker, and right-wing or left-wing. We’re all here for a common goal, to be successful, and that's what brings us together.”

Campus Life

Cal State San Bernardino has a large commuter population hence many students simply “do [their] own thing.” And while some undergrads lament that “there's not much in terms of fun activities here,” others insist that life is a blast “as long as you get involved in groups/clubs.” As one senior interjects, “Greek life is a big deal, always active.” Many students also herald the Rec Center which offers “a large gym, climbing wall [and] basketball courts.” Undergrads also flock to the Student Union which is home to the Gaming Center and the Pub, both popular hangout spots. There are a myriad of events such as “card making in the Women’s Center” and “movie night at the library.” Additionally, “the theater/music departments are always putting on a performance.” Students also appreciate that “the fitness center offers low cost trips to many places in California to give students the opportunity to camp, hike, go horseback riding, and even snorkeling.” Further, undergrads “also get discounted tickets to movie theaters, theme parks and other fun places in the area.”
