Academics

Linfield University "is all about providing a well rounded education for each and every student who steps foot on campus." Students say, "Linfield University has a studious atmosphere and excellent support base" for pursuing academic interests, and the students rave about the "excellent reputation [of the] study abroad programs." Many feel "The small feel of the University allows students to really take advantage of their education," and they say, "Linfield is all about having a personalized education." A freshman says, "The school was built with the students best interests in mind," adding, "with no TAs teaching the classes are fun, interesting, and well-taught." Professors are "engaging, informative, and approachable," and they "bring their own personality to the class and encourage their students to do the same." An environmental policy major says, "Thanks to the relatively low student-to-faculty ratio, I have developed and maintained good relationships with my professors," and many students feel like "class is usually something to look forward to." Overall, Linfield provides "a well-rounded education and an environment that challenges you to learn more about yourself."

Student Body

At Linfield University "The typical student is studious and committed but [also] knows how to make the most of life and how to have a good time." Students describe themselves as "nice and friendly" as well as "passionate, outgoing, and determined." They say, "making friends is easy here" and that "every student can find a place to fit in whether it is getting involved in sports, clubs, service, or ResLife." Regardless, many feel that "Linfield could improve the ethnic diversity of the student population," and students point out that "the majority of the students are athletic Caucasians." A freshman says, "come the weekend there is plenty to do to unwind and take a break from your studies," and "It's rare to find a student who is so focused on academics that they have time or nothing else." Students say, "if you're interested, there are always the parties off campus in the fraternities and such," but "You don't have to party to have a social life." An economics major says, "There are lots of great outdoor opportunities close by," adding that "It's easy to head to the beach, go for a hike in the forest, or head up to the mountain to hit the slopes."

Campus Life

Linfield University has "a beautiful campus [that] is just the right size," and the school offers "a wonderful atmosphere with happy students and supportive staff." Students say, "There is a real sense of community on campus, and everyone goes out of their way to make sure you succeed." One undergrad adds, "Linfield is a small University that puts students first and lets them thrive." A freshman says, "One of the greatest strengths of this school is the sense of community," and another student agrees: "Our school is really good at keeping people involved." Students say, "There are so many different ways to get involved on campus, whether through clubs intramural sports or residence hall life," and students offer that as a student you feel that "you can find yourself in a position of power that you wouldn't have at a bigger school." Additionally, students rave about the "cultural aspect [of Linfield] with study abroad, great language departments, and plenty of exchange students." An international business major speaks for many saying, "The only improvement I could see to be made is offer more on-campus dining options with healthier options."

Transportation

Types of Transportation Available to Campus
Linfield is appx. 50 miles from the Portland International Airport, usually about 1 hr 15 minutes drive. Private shuttle buses also serve the campus.

Driving Instructions to Campus
From Portland (north): Take I-5 to the Tualatin/Sherwood Exit (289). Turn right (West) onto Nyberg Road, which becomes the Tualatin/Sherwood Road. Proceed through the community of Tualatin until you reach Sherwood (5 miles). In Sherwood, immediately past the Albertson's shopping complex, take a left (South) onto Hwy 99W. Proceed through the communities of Newberg and Dundee (12 miles). A couple miles south of Dundee you will take a left (South) onto Hwy 18. Proceed on this highway until you reach the McMinnville Exit (5 miles). Take the McMinnville Exit. Stay on this road (which turns into 3rd Street) until you reach North Adams (you will come to a T in the road). Turn left (South) onto North Adams and continue until you see Linfield on your left (about a half-mile). Go past the main entrance of campus and then take a left (East) onto Linfield Avenue. Proceed on Linfield Avenue two blocks. The Admissions Office (Michelbook House) is on the right (South side) at 450 SW Linfield Avenue. From Portland International Airport: Take I-205 south to the I-5 Northbound interchange (24 miles). Heading north on I-5, stay in the right-hand lane. Take the Tualatin-Sherwood exit (289). Go left (West) at the light onto Nyberg Road, which becomes the Tualatin/Sherwood Road. Continue with directions above starting with the break in the text. From Eugene (south) via I-5: Exit I-5 at Hwy 34 and go west to Corvallis. Turn right (North) onto Hwy 99W and proceed to McMinnville, approximately one hour and 15 minutes (50 miles). Once entering McMinnville, proceed to SW Linfield Avenue and take a right (East). The Admissions Office (Michelbook House) is on the right (south side) at 450 SW Linfield Avenue.
