Academics
One of the standout features of Moravian University isn't just that it's a "close knit community" filled with those who "support each other and give back to the community in many ways," but that it puts its money where its mouth is. Here, it's "one of the few schools in the nation [that] allow students and faculty [to] have a full vote on their Board of Trustees," which makes appreciative students feel as if they actually have a voice. Consequently, undergrads agree that the school "really does look after its students and makes sure that they succeed here."
A handful of students specifically note that, among the many great academic departments, the "nursing and education programs are what stand out to students when applying." But regardless of your major, the university "really strives for all academic courses to integrate critical thinking in order to better prepare students for their future careers." The incorporation of technology is also praised, with undergrads observing that "it is amazing that each incoming student is provided with a laptop and iPad so that everyone coming in is on the same level." Further backing up both the structure and accessories are Moravian's best aspect-"It's a small school so you get close with your professors and build connections easily." This especially true at the higher academic levels, where professors are uniformly cited as being "stellar," though most are described as "extremely friendly" and as having "lots of passion for their subject, and they're happy to explain things to you when you have difficulty understanding the material."
Student Body
Those fearing a difficult transition from high school to university, worry not. Everyone at Moravian is reported to be "approachable and friendly," so much so that "All the upperclassmen helped the freshmen learn the campus and made them feel welcomed. It's like one big family." The overall composition of the student body leans toward being "predominantly white," but there is "a significant international student population. Many share a common denominator, too, when it comes to their activity levels: "Nearly every student is in multiple clubs, organizations, or sports teams." This helps to explain why one undergrad notes that "athletes, nerds, and theater kids mix together and do not isolate," and why overall almost everyone maintains "a strong amount of respect for each other." As one student puts it, "Whenever I want to eat, I can always find someone to chat with at whatever dining spot I'm in on campus," and another notes that "We're always smiling or saying hello to one another when we pass each other on campus."
Campus Life
Moravian students lead fairly busy lives both academically and socially and they wouldn't have it any other way. There's a wide variety of clubs, which "people are really passionate about." For example, "One of my favorite activities on campus is Board Game Club, where we meet every week and play board and card games." Things can get very niche, as with the Brain Club, which is always "reaching out to the Lehigh Valley to educate the public on neuroscience." There's plenty of broad appeal as well when it comes to the "many sporting events that students can get into and go support their friends." And when it comes to events, Moravian once again allows its students more involvement than usual, thanks to the Moravian Activities Council (MAC), which promotes extracurriculars "programmed by a handful of our very own students," and which include numerous free activities "like movie nights, trivia nights, painting, scavenger hunts, and bingo nights" as well as off-campus trips to "Broadway [shows], rock-climbing, ice skating, goat yoga, top golf, and much more." Additionally, "Greek life is pretty big on campus and is very involved." Speaking of fraternities and sororities, students note that there's "a good party culture on campus: present and safe enough to enjoy, but easy enough to avoid if you'd prefer." Lastly, should anyone tire of dining on campus, hometown Bethlehem has "lots of great restaurants" right on Main Street.
