Academics
Rosemont College, a newly coeducational liberal arts college just outside of Philadelphia, "is all about striving for excellence, while embracing diversity and celebrating the unique differences of each student." The school provides students with the tools to become "a community of learners" through an education centered around "individualized attention" and teachers that "cater to your learning style." "Rosemont College does not only train you for a job, it trains you for a joyful life," says a freshman. The school's small size opens up the classrooms for more discussion and gives students a better understanding of the resources available to them, and it also "allows professors to know all of their students on a personal level." One student even says that "By being such a small school, there is greater chance of a freshman becoming close friends with an upperclassman, which has really helped me with the high school to college transition." Professors "bring a great variety of personal/research interests and experiences to the classroom" and try to incorporate interactive aspects to their teachings in order "to make the class fun." Additionally, the "breathtaking" college's location "helps the students to feel safe." Students also really appreciate that the college "provides a lot of financial aid" and mentoring, and there are "many leadership opportunities available." Academic drawbacks include those typical of a small college: "All classes are only offered once a year, either always in the fall or always in the spring. Or they are offered every two years or only once." While most just try to snatch up a course when they see it offered, students do "have the ability to cross register at other local universities."
Student Body
Previously an all-women's college, Rosemont welcomed its first coeducational class in the fall of 2009. However, students from the once all-female campus characterize the student body thusly: "conscientious, friendly, and an avid learner." A typical student is "passionate about his/her major field of study, involved in activities/clubs on campus, and is probably working (either part time or during the summer)." But beyond these common qualities, the student body is remarkably diverse, consisting of a "rich diversity of people from every culture and race" "Some wear a hijab; some are running around in a little sundress. Then there are students who are changing their sexual identity." Atypical students are the commuters, who might describe their experience at Rosemont as feeling "a little left out," but on the whole, "students make friends easily."
Campus Life
People here "usually focus on schoolwork during the week and have fun on the weekends"; however, as many students are from the Philadelphia area, Rosemont is a "suitcase college," and it can be a bit of a "ghost town on the weekends." Still, "there are activities on campus regularly" during the week, and the school also arranges "movie nights almost every two weeks, has parties at Rosemont once a month, [and] arrange trips to places like Dorney Park." If your particular passion doesn't have a dedicated outlet, worry not, since "with some paperwork, Rosemont's guidance and a few committed members," almost any club can be started. "The gym is always busy at night," and the Rosemont Activities Council also sponsors dance parties. "The most popular party is the Halloween party because it is the one party that serves free beer to the students who are over 21." And speaking of beer, "There is [a] large amount of people who spend their free time drinking." That common predilection, coupled with the "strict rules and regulations about alcohol" that Rosemont enforces, means that many students go off campus to have fun, and "It's nice having a lot of other colleges in the area." The food at Rosemont is universally reviled, so luckily, it's quite easy to get off campus, as the R5 train to Philly is just a few blocks away. In addition to the taste of city life Philadelphia offers, "Many students like to go to the King of Prussia mall for shopping."
