The answer would be yes, there have been programs and events that have had a wellness/mental health focus over the last two years. we have also done partnerships with others offices that would classify as incorporating mental health into the residential experience.

The following courses in the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences include mental health and well-being: The Forty-Niner Intensive Transition (FIT) program discusses the importance of mental health and the resources that are available to them during FIT week prior to the semester and throughout the FIT course the subsequent fall. The Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Applied, Development and Skills program (LEADS) offers an advocacy course that provides training and resources, specifically for mental health - NAMI certification, as well as provides options for other types of advocacy. The following courses in the College of Health and Human Services include mental health and well-being. Some of these relate to self-care and mental health, and others are related to the patient populations: HAHS 1511-Issues of Health and Quality of Life EXER 4333-Sport and Exercise Psychology HLTH 2101-Healthy Lifestyles is required of all Pre-Public Health students In the School of Nursing, several courses include content threaded throughout such as how to take care of yourself as a nurse and in the profession of nursing, and how to stay safe from burnout, workplace violence, and mental health in leadership: NURS 3102-Introduction to Nursing Science NURS 4120-Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing NURS 4203-Leadership and Informatics for Nursing Practice In the School of Social Work, all undergraduate and graduate social work students must complete required courses that address mental health concerns among their clients. Additionally, they have elective options that also address mental health issues in clients. There are also courses that address self-care as social work practitioners, such as burn-out prevention, assessing secondary trauma in self and colleagues, and developing a self care maintenance routine. These are assignments, however, and not the sole focus of any course. The H.E.L.P. Certificate: The Health Education Leadership and Prevention (H.E.L.P.) Certificate program provides students with non-academic credit for participating in national prevention training opportunities on various health and wellbeing issues. Students will gain the skills and confidence to provide support, connect peers with appropriate resources, and respond effectively to mental health, interpersonal violence, substance use, and medical emergencies. Students must complete 6 of the following training sessions to receive the H.E.L.P. Certificate: Mental Health First Aid (8 hours) - REQUIRED Green Dot Bystander Training (3 hours) - REQUIRED Green Dot Overview Training (1 hour) Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) Training (1 hour) Recovery Ally Training (1 hour) Safer Drinking: Bystander Intervention (1 hour) Opioid First Aid (1 hour) Stop the Bleed (1 hour) After completing the training requirements, the last step is to provide feedback through the H.E.L.P. Certificate survey. Those that complete the program receive a certificate, a micro-credential, LinkedIn badge, and an honor cord for their graduation. You can complete the program requirements at your own pace. All requirements must be completed prior to graduation.
