Academics

The University of West Georgia is “very much an equal opportunity school,” which means “resources are abundant and easy to access,” including peer tutoring and a writing center. Plus, with “programs specifically designed to help students … who might struggle in the college environment,” you can rest assured that you’ll meet faculty who are “understanding,” “engaging,” and “always open to new ideas”—some are even described as “super cool,” which is an added bonus. Furthermore, they strive to “really build a connection with their students,” and that’s an easy task to accomplish with the low student to faculty ratio. Still, “professors really push students to succeed and to recognize the potential they may not see in themselves.”

Apart from the faculty, West Georgia “is very good at presenting academic and career opportunities.” Indeed, students are kept “up-to-date on everything that's happening on campus.” Overall, students say “the academic experience at West Georgia is very rewarding for those who put forth the effort to be successful.”

Student Body

There’s no denying that the school offers undergraduates “a very inclusive environment.” Students proudly pronounce their peers to be “extremely diverse,” noting that people “rarely feel out of place.” Representing a breadth of political views, academic goals, and even ages, the student body has a level of “just all-around uniqueness.” Couple that with peers who are “sociable, interactive, and friendly,” as well as “incredibly nice and sincere,” and you’ll find that “everyone treats one another with understanding … and [acceptance] of their differences.” This is all in the goal to “feel … able to ask for help whenever it is needed.” One attendee proudly proclaims, “I have never met someone who wasn’t willing to help me when I’ve needed it on campus.”

Campus Life

Since undergrads at West Georgia take their academics pretty seriously, “a majority of students spend their time in … the library working.” However, even these dedicated scholars need a breather every now and then, which is when they flock to the “numerous hangout spots” elsewhere on campus, including the on-site Starbucks. Additionally, each academic building has a seating area, and it’s quite common to see everyone “chatting it up in between classes.” For sports fans, “the athletics department is stellar” and intramurals are “very popular … and very competitive.” Low-key, outdoor activities are also recommended by students, given that the “campus is beautiful.” Bike rides are appealing, there’s a lovely nearby lake, and some students like to just go for a walk. If none of those suit your fancy, students also mention playing video games and going to plays put on by the theater department. In short, there are plenty of ways to keep “school life … very interesting and exciting.”
