BA561, Supply Chain Management - We discuss the impact of Lean on resource management, and concepts including triple bottom line, Natural Step Framework, closed loop supply chain, and environmental strategies. This course considers key supply chain management issues from two perspectives: process efficiency and system effectiveness. The goal is to expand your knowledge of supply chain management and operations management. Topics will be covered in such a manner that the information should be applicable to managing and improving the operations of firm’s global supply chains. We use Harvard Business School Cases and guest speakers from Oregon companies to illustrate such concepts. Students will be able to apply key topics to actual supply chain decisions and environmental strategies in operations and understand the linkages between key supply chain member and structural characteristics of supply chain.
MGMT 559 - Managing Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility
The course introduces students to contemporary issues managers face making ethical and socially-responsible decisions in an increasingly competitive, transparent, and global environment. The class uses practical examples and cases, as well as contemporary behavioral ethics research and theory to help students understand the ambiguous, difficult and often intractable problems facing modern business professionals.
Students apply knowledge of the resource conflicts and stakeholder demands that often inhibit CSR and ethical choices in critical analyses of organizations. They also analyze the impact of decisions and actions on stakeholders including interpersonal, societal, environmental, and organizational considerations.
Specifically, the course focuses on maximizing shared value for social and competitive benefit, covering topics including: strategizing for triple bottom line performance; leveraging effectuation approaches to CSR to maximize impact; rethinking supply chain strategy to mitigate unanticipated risks; and the development and planning of social entrepreneurial ventures.
