From The School
Students feel right at home in our welcoming and friendly community. Many say UNE is "just the right size," giving opportunities for all students to find their own special role, inside and outside the classroom.
The personal attention students receive from faculty both in and out of class, and the quality of faculty as experts in their fields are key strengths of the UNE experience. Students appreciate their faculty members as mentors and trust them as accomplished scholars who impact their fields. From designing coastal trails and restoring wetlands on campus to caring for patients in need, UNE faculty members work side-by-side with their students and are recognized by their peers and other leaders for their expertise. UNE faculty members are national award recipients, Fulbright scholars, authors and world-class researchers, and they share their knowledge with their students.
UNE offers a variety of cultural and social events and encourages students to become involved in activities, clubs and sports. Popular interests include scuba diving, skiing, hiking, biking, varsity and intramural sports, swimming, surfing, music, theater, community service and student leadership development programs.
UNE athletes— called Nor'easters after one of the nastiest storms in Mother Nature's arsenal— strive for success on and off the field. With 15 conference championships in the last five years, the Nor'easters athletics teams are a serious source of pride at UNE and have a history of blowing through the competition. UNE's intercollegiate teams compete at the Division III level in men's basketball, cross country, football, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse and soccer. Varsity women's sports include basketball, cross country, field hockey, ice hockey, lacrosse, rugby, soccer, softball, swimming and volleyball. Starting in Spring 2021, women's outdoor track and field will compete at the varsity level.

Whether an academic club, an arts club, student government, a cultural organization or an outdoor recreation group, it's easy to find others who are ready to welcome new students aboard.
UNE also fosters global citizenship by providing the opportunity for all students to study abroad. In fact, UNE students study abroad at five times the national average. Students can study at our very own campus in Morocco, or our partner institutions in Spain, France and Iceland. Plus, UNE offers faculty-led travel courses in many exciting locations. Opportunities include studying coral reefs in Belize, conducting field work in Costa Rica, providing health services in Ghana, and much more.
